Healthcare for Life Recommendations: Kitten
EXAMS:
Complete Physical Exam monthly until 4 months of age. Then a complete physical exam every 6 months. Our exams include new kitten behavior counseling, nutritional analysis, and risk assessment for congenital and inherited diseases.
VACCINATIONS:
- Vaccination for Feline Distemper Virus, Feline Calici Virus, and Feline Rhinotracheitis Virus every 4 weeks 2-3 times until 12-16 weeks old.
- Vaccination for Feline Leukemia virus beginning at 10 weeks and repeated 3-4 weeks later.
- Rabies vaccine as required by state law anytime after 12 weeks
- Blood test for feline leukemia virus and feline Immunodeficiency virus 1 or 2 times.
PARASITE CONTROL:
- Strategic deworming: every 2 weeks from 2 weeks old through 12 weeks old and then monthly through adulthood. (pyrantel plus Drontal or Panacur)
- Veterinary recommended flea and tick control monthly all year if outside EVER. (Revolution)
- Evaluation for ringworm (Wood’s lamp exam +/- a fungal culture if from a shelter, cattery or other high risk environment
- Fecal floatation with each visit (2-3 times)
SURGERY:
- Spay or neuter at 4-6 months old with pre-anesthetic blood work.
- Microchip application.
